Fiber optics expert Dr Thomas Mensah to receive 2019 GUBA Black Star award
The Founder of Silicon Valley of Ghana, and Fiber Optics Inventor, Dr. Thomas Mensah has been nominated to receive a Black Star Award for Technological Achievement in New York in September at the 2019 Guba Awards [Ghana UK Based Achievement].
Nominees for the United States edition of the GUBA Awards were announced on Thursday, July 11th at the press launch held at the United Nations, New York. The press launch was a lead up to the awards scheduled to take place

Dr. Thomas Mensah, a Nanotechnology Expert and Ghana’s Technology Icon has received numerous awards including the Kwame Nkrumah African Genius Award in Ghana in 2017, The World Nanotechnology Conference Award in Dubai, 2019, Fellow recognition at the US National Academy of Inventors, Percy Julian Award in the US, AIChE 100 and others is very humbled by this selection.
Dr. Mensah has also been referred to as the Imhotep of Modern Times in the WEB DuBois Book, latest Edition, (Imhotep designed and Build the Pyramids in Egypt 3000 BC.)
Dr. Mensah, in addition to creating Silicon Valley of Ghana, is involved in several high profile infrastructure programmes in Ghana that is aimed at helping Ghana reach 90 per cent of its Sustainable Development Goals.
The GUBA Awards is also focused on Sustainable Development Goals.

During the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s Chancellors week at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) as part of his 20th anniversary celebration, Dr Mensah’s Silicon Valley of Ghana and its partners trained 600 university students with the support of hi-tech companies at the Great Hall of the KNUST, a programme that was billed as the largest Hackathon in West Africa.
Dr. Mensah a chemical engineer and aerospace engineer who was awarded seven US Patents in six years is the author of five books on innovation, including the African Edition of The Right Stuff Comes in Black Too.

In this Book Dr Mensah discusses the roadmap for industrialisation, modernization and infrastructure development in Ghana and Africa.
He is also the author of the international textbook “Nanotechnology Commercialization,” published by Wiley and AIChE.
