Alfred Mutua Awarded ‘Best Governor in Africa’

Dr. Alfred Mutua, Governor of Machakos, Kenya has been named “Best Governor of the Year” for 2021. Mutua received the prize during the second edition of the prestigious Africa Illustrious Award ceremony, which took place on Thursday, December 9, 2021 at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Lagos, Nigeria.

The Africa Illustrious award, established in 2020 and managed by My Media Africa, honors and recognizes notable Africans who have succeeded in 36 various fields of human endeavor. Nominations are sought in a variety of categories from all around Africa and the diaspora.

Following that, the public from all around Africa is invited to vote on the identified nominees via social media. The shortlist is then thoroughly scrutinized by a team of 26 prominent experts from around the continent before the winners are chosen.

Distinguished dignitaries from throughout the African continent, government officials, and media figures attended the colorful celebration. Oscar Mabuyane (South Africa), Nyesom Ezenwo Wike (Nigeria), and Bushy Maape (Botswana) were on the list (South Africa).

Mutua was honored by the organizers, My Media Africa, for his contributions to water supply, healthcare, and road construction, among other accomplishments, since becoming governor in 2013.

The panel unanimously voted for Dr. Mutua’s victory, highlighting his outstanding achievements as Governor of Machakos County.

They praised Machakos’ healthcare services, particularly the free cancer care and treatment center that helps the most vulnerable Kenyans, as well as the county’s decency and new asphalt roads.

The unique People’s Park in Machakos, which is clean, gorgeous, and free for all Kenyans to enjoy, wowed the judges.

One of the award event organisers, Prof. Henry Iwuanyanwu, stated that “Machakos is very clean and beautiful!”

Babagana Umara Zulum, Governor of Borno State in Nigeria, was named Best African Governor for 2020. In addition, former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan was honored as the African Peace Ambassador of All Time at the 2020 gala.

The nominees for the prize were chosen from a variety of sectors, including health, innovative leadership, sports, agriculture, education, philanthropy, business, community development, the arts, and integrity.

The county executive dedicated the honor to the assembly and his Cabinet, calling it a victory for everyone who had a hand in his life. In his acceptance speech, Mutua emphasized the importance of focusing on whatever it is that they are doing to transform lives and doing it selflessly in order to get God’s blessing.
