AFROXMAS 2021 LAUNCHED WITH ORGANIZERS PROMISING AN EXCITING EVENT

The biggest masquerade festival in the Harbour City of Ghana, Tema outside of Accra and known as AfroXmas, has been officially launched with a colorful event this past weekend at The Location Bar, in Tema Community 10.

SyPhics Studios based in Tema Community 8 and established in 2011 with the main aim of coordinating large-scale events and promoting talents within Tema and Ghana at large are the organizers of AfroXmas Festival. Activities scheduled for this year look to be an upgrade of previous events according to SyPhics.

At the launch of the 6th Edition of AfroXmas, it was announced that the festival will be a 2-day event slated for the 25th and 26th of December 2021 and will be hosted in Tema Community 2 (on the main Police Station road) by two of its long-serving masquerade group members, Sanatos and Sea Stars Fancy Groups. 

The organizers of the event reiterated that the festival was their way of giving back to society by uniting with local partners to celebrate and showcase the rich Ghanaian culture. Organizers further pointed out that AfroXmas is a display of all the beauty that Ghana has to offer and above all, a platform to unite all with pride for their African roots.

On his part, His Highness Nii Bortey Kofi Frankwa II the Oyibi Gonten Mantse who is also Nungua Manklalo Shuonotalo (a traditional leader) eulogized the founding fathers of the masquerade community and spoke of the history behind the harbor city. He also made his allegiance with the Unity Fancy group known as he was previously a member. 

Nii Bortey Kofi Frankwa II also urged for future events to always include the traditional community in their plans and activities as AfroXmas had done and pleaded with the youth within Tema to use the AfroXmas event to come together under one umbrella to fight a united cause. “Stay away from petty qualms and infighting and make this year’s theme for AfroXmas which is ‘One Big Celebration’ have relevance in your actions,” he said to the youths at the launch. 

Mr. Asante Pobee, the CEO of Dinosaur Ventures and Vice president of Citizen Check, a youth pressure group with its members scattered across the country with its headquarters in the Tema municipality was one of the guests of honor. In his submission he rehashed the wise words of His Highness Nii Bortey Frankwa II, he said unity amongst the youth in Tema is key, as that makes them a formidable force whose voice cannot be ignored by those in the corridors of power in Ghana.

Other personalities that graced the occasion with their presence included the acting president of Tema Masquerade club in the person of Justice Gameli Korku, the event was host Lil Beatz and Laud Halm-Quartey, a celebrated Ghanaian poet affectionately known in the entertainment circles as Laud De Poet.
