The Ghana Embassy in Washington, D.C., has held a solemn memorial service in honour of the late Defence Minister; Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Environment, Science and Technology Minister; Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed and six other officials who died in a military helicopter crash on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.

The service, which drew a gathering of sympathiser, was attended by a delegation of Ghanaian clergy in Maryland and other dignitaries from the Ghanaian community in the Washington DC metro area of the United States.

The event provided an opportunity for attendees to reflect on the lives and contributions of the deceased to the nation’s development.

Speaking during the service, the Acting Head of Mission, Ambassador Mrs. Jane Gasu Aheto, expressed gratitude to all the Ambassadors and the members of the Ghanaian community who signed the Book of Condolence, noting that Ghanaians will still soldier on for God and country.

The leader of the delegation of clergymen and women, Reverend Glover, paid glowing tribute to the fallen heroes and encouraged all Ghanaians to continue to trust in God. He said “God would restore the nation and not forsake her. In His love“, and that He will gather, comfort, keep, and protect its people so such a tragedy will not be experienced again.

The Clergy remembered the Ghanaian children who lost their lives earlier in the week too, and prayed that God would comfort their families as well.

The memorial service was held to honour and remember the fallen heroes for their dedicated service to the nation, pay tribute to their contributions in public office, and provide a space for the Ghanaian community and friends abroad to mourn their passing.

Back home in Ghana, the government held an Evening of Reflections and Memorial on Saturday, August 9, 2025 to conclude the three-day national mourning for the five officials and three military personnel who died in the military helicopter crash.
