Ghanaian Afro Roots singer/songwriter and renowned social activist, Rocky Dawuni, has just completed the second leg of his 2013 tour of Europe, which included searing performances at the massive Summerjam Festival in Cologne Germany, the prestigious Montreau Jazz Festival in Switzerland and the new Weedbeat Festival in Hannover, Germany.

Earlier in June, Dawuni was invited to appear at the esteemed Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. as part of the spectacular Kennedy Center/Grammy Museum ‘Legacy of Bob Marley’ tribute. He will next perform a free, all ages show presented by KCRW FM at L.A.’s Levitt Pavilion MacArthur Park on August 24 at 8pm.

This year has brought accolades offstage as well for Rocky with him winning the ‘Best Songwriter’ award from the maiden edition of his native Ghana’s BASS Awards which celebrates Reggae Music. Rocky is now working on the follow up to his highly successful ‘Hymns for the Rebel Soul’ album which is going to be a brand new collection tentatively titled ‘Afro Roots’.

Rocky also serves as an ambassador for the UN Foundation’s Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves and devotes considerable amounts of time to his own Africa Live foundation which focuses on using music as a medium of social change in Africa and around the world.

It therefore comes as little surprise that British filmmaker Steven Patey-Colton is currently in pre-production stages of a feature documentary film about Dawuni’s life, work, talent, passion and vision that has a working title: ‘Rocky Dawuni: Branches of the Same Tree’.

Through interviews, exclusive live recordings and archival footage among others, this biopic will observe and explore Rocky’s dedication to combining world-class musical performances with the fight for social justice and the promotion of world peace across the global stage.

We will have more updates on the life and works of this prolific son of Ghana for you as and when they materialize.
