MOBA announces Anomabo Beach Resort for 150th anniversary retreat
As Mfantsipim School prepares to mark 150 years of educational history in Ghana, members of the Mfantsipim Old Boys Association (MOBA) are preparing to celebrate the milestone not only by looking back, but also by creating space for fellowship, reflection and reconnection.
As part of the MOBA 150th Anniversary Celebrations, the association has announced “A Retreat for Relaxation and Reconnection,” scheduled to take place at Anomabo Beach Resort from November 12 to 15, 2026.
The four-day gathering is designed to give old boys an opportunity to step away from their usual routines, reconnect with one another and reflect on the shared history that began with the founding of Mfantsipim School in 1876. The choice of a retreat format gives the anniversary celebrations a different character from a conventional commemorative event.
Rather than centring the occasion solely on formal ceremonies, the organizers are placing emphasis on fellowship and personal connection, inviting members to “take time away from busy schedules to relax, refresh, and regain strength for the remainder of the year.”
The programme is expected to include informal gatherings, leisure time by the sea and opportunities for conversation among members and guests. Among the planned activities are an evening get-togethers for fellowship and conversatio, leisure and relaxation along the beachfront, and a Sunday afternoon beach gathering focused on relaxation, reflection and camaraderie.
For an association marking a 150-year institutional milestone, the setting provides an opportunity for members of different generations to reconnect outside the formal environment of anniversary ceremonies.
Located in Ghana’s Central Region, approximately 116 kilometres west of Accra and about nine miles from Cape Coast, Anomabo is a historic coastal community with deep connections to Ghana’s Gold Coast past.
The town played an important role in the history of the transatlantic slave trade, while Fort William, a historic British fort in Anomabo, remains a reminder of the area’s involvement in the colonial-era trade and European competition along the Gold Coast.
For MOBA, Anomabo provides both a peaceful coastal environment for fellowship and a location connected to some of the broader historical experiences that have shaped Ghana and the wider African world.
The town’s proximity to Cape Coast and other significant heritage sites also places participants within a landscape where Ghana’s educational, colonial and Atlantic histories intersect.
Founded in 1876, Mfantsipim School holds a distinctive place in Ghana’s educational history as the country’s first secondary school. Over a century and a half, the institution has produced generations of alumni who have gone on to contribute to Ghana and communities around the world.
MOBA’s anniversary activities therefore represent more than a reunion. They are part of a broader commemoration of the institution’s 150-year legacy and the relationships formed through it.
The Anomabo retreat provides one setting in which that legacy can be celebrated through personal connection, bringing together old boys in an atmosphere centred on fellowship rather than ceremony alone.
