Catherine Kabuki Cudjoe to receive Light-Bearers Award
The Garvey School today announced that Ms. Catherine Kabuki Cudjoe has been selected as a recipient of the prestigious Amy Jacques Garvey Light-Bearers Award. Ms. Cudjoe will be recognized as an Emerging Light Bearer – a distinction honouring rising leaders whose accomplishments, vision, and commitment to service demonstrate the promise of continued leadership and meaningful impact.
The award will be presented at The Garvey School Fundraiser on Sunday, 8 November 2026 at Maestro’s Catering in the Bronx, New York.
The Amy Jacques Garvey Light-Bearers Award honors individuals whose leadership, service, accomplishments, and commitment to community reflect the enduring spirit of Amy Jacques Garvey — a woman whose life exemplified education, advocacy, empowerment, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to the advancement of her people.
This year’s inaugural awards will recognize exceptional leaders from across the global diaspora, representing Jamaica, Africa, and the wider Caribbean.
In a letter to Ms. Cudjoe, June O’Connor, Founder and Principal of The Garvey School, stated: “Your selection reflects our admiration for the contribution you have made and the light you continue to shine through your leadership and service. We believe your story and accomplishments embody the spirit of the Light-Bearer and will inspire others, including the young people whose futures we seek to help shape through our support of The Garvey School.“
The fundraiser will bring together community leaders, supporters, friends, and advocates of The Garvey School for an evening of celebration, recognition, and purpose, raising critical resources to support the school’s continued development and its mission of providing students with an educational foundation that empowers them to achieve their full potential.
