2nd Sankofa African Network Impact Award (SANIA) set for Virginia

Highly anticipated Sankofa African Network Impact Awards (SANIA) will return on Saturday, September 20, 2025, for its second edition, promising an unforgettable evening of celebration, recognition, and inspiration.

The awards will be held in the United States at the Waterford Event Centre, 6715 Commerce St, Springfield, Virginia 22150, at 6pm. It will honour outstanding individuals and organisations who have made significant contributions to the African community through service, innovation, advocacy, and leadership.

The prestigious event will also shine a spotlight on changemakers across various sectors including education, volunteer work, entrepreneurship, arts, youth empowerment, and humanitarian service.

“We are excited to celebrate the powerful work being done by individuals who often go unrecognized. The SANIA Awards is not just an event — it’s a movement of encouragement, gratitude, and hope,” said Kate Forson, planning committee chair of SANIA.

Nominees according to the awards represent the best of community-driven impact, with stories that inspire, uplift, and ignite lasting change. Red carpet arrivals, media interviews, and a celebration of culture and excellence will set the tone for the evening.

This year’s event will feature captivating performances from multiple award-winning artiste Ofori Amponsah, keynote speakers, and surprise honourees, making it a must-attend for business leaders and community members alike.

SANIA’s nomination category this year includes Humanitarian, Creativity, Community Service, Community Leadership, Educational Leadership, Public Charity, Business Impact, Philanthropy, Volunteer Service, Professional Impact, and Youth Impact.

The organizer and host of the eventSankofa African Network (SAN) is a Virginia-based nonprofit founded in 2020. It has provided services to the DC Metro community in many ways since 2009. The nonprofit primarily serves the growing African diaspora and Afro-Caribbean immigrants.

Its inaugural edition attracted distinguished and high-profile guests, with an encouraging nudge from the African diaspora community. Dress code for the Awards is “Strictly Formal or Formal African Attire.”
