KNUST Is The Leading University In Ghana And Has The Most Beautiful Campus – Spanish Ambassador To Ghana

His Excellency Javier Gutiérrez, the Spanish Ambassador to Ghana, has recognised Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) as Ghana’s university with the most beautiful campus and top university. The Diplomat made this declaration during his formal visit to KNUST as part of his first visit to the Ashanti Region. He praised KNUST for integrating great architectural designs with lovely trees and lawns.

On Monday, November 1, 2021, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor (Mrs.) Rita Akosua Dickson, and some members of the University Management welcomed His Excellency Gutiérrez, who was accompanied by Miguel Casero, Head of the Economic and Commercial Office, and Rafael Rodriguez-Ponga, Deputy Head of Mission of Spain to KNUST at the Council Chamber.

Speaking on the purpose of his visit, His Excellency Gutiérrez stated that the Embassy decided to explore ways to collaborate with the leading Science and Technology University in Ghana which he asserts is full of centres of excellence and a nurturing ground for leaders.

He emphasized his desire to develop a Spanish language centre at KNUST, as Spanish is the world’s second most spoken native language. He also advocated hiring a Spanish lecturer to help with the Centre’s establishment and serve as a liaison with the Embassy and KNUST. As a result, he sought the University’s assistance in making this a reality.

His Excellency announced that a group of ten professors from the prestigious Madrid University will collaborate on research into the prevention of contagious diseases in animals, implying partnership with the KNUST School of Veterinary Medicine.

He also spoke about the numerous scholarship programs and opportunities available for African students and professionals. To this, he expressed that the cooperation of all stakeholders is essential to ensure the success of the intended collaborations.

Professor (Mrs.) Rita Akosua Dickson in her address, said the University thrives on quality teaching and learning, impactful research, entrepreneurship training and community engagement. She stated that the University can achieve these through effective collaboration with its partners such as the Spanish Embassy. She further pledged the willingness of the Management to establish the Centre, which is said to be the hub of the study of Spanish language and its culture.

Professor (Mrs.) Dickson stated that the KNUST School of Veterinary Medicine is the best in Ghana, and thus approved the notion of collaborative study on contagious diseases and pledge her support.
