Lady Julia Osei Tutu to speak at 9th GWAG’s U.S. fundraiser

The Ghanaian Women’s Association of Georgia (GWAG) will be hosting Lady Julia Osei Tutu, wife of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II (King of the Ashanti Kingdom), as the keynote speaker for its 9th Annual Maternity Fundraising Gala, in the United States (U.S.).

The 2-day extravaganza will feature a cultural day on Friday, June 21st, and a gala on Saturday, June 22nd, at the Atlanta City Hall Atrium, 55 Trinity Ave. SW Atlanta, GA 30303. In attendance will be Her Excellency Hajia Alima Mahama, Ghana’s Ambassador to the US, and other community leaders.

The annual gala is a cornerstone event for GWAG, bringing together members of the Ghanaian community, local leaders, and supporters to shine the spotlight on challenges facing access to maternal healthcare in Ghana and efforts being made by the association to make a positive impact.

This year’s theme underscores GWAG’s commitment to improving maternal and child healthcare in underserved communities, one ward at a time. Over the past 9 years, through the generosity of numerous donors and sponsors, GWAG has procured and supplied vital medical supplies to over forty maternity wards in Ghana.

The association plans to adopt a number of these wards and support them on a continual basis. In a recent interview, Agnes Hayfron-Benjamin, past president and head of the Ward Adoption Task Force, stated:

“We are very excited about taking our maternity program to the next level by adopting, transforming, and equipping more wards to effect positive health outcomes. Our partnership with Rotary Club Accra – Airport is critical to the effective implementation of our program as they will serve a pivotal role in Monitoring & Evaluation, thereby giving us the data to measure our impact over time.”

“We are thrilled to host our 9th Annual Gala and shine a spotlight on the important work being done to enhance maternity experiences in Ghana,” said Bernice Smith, President of GWAG. “Through our collective efforts and the generosity of our supporters, we can make a tangible difference in the lives of women and children.”

Guests can look forward to an evening filled with exquisite Ghanaian cuisine, the latest in Afrobeat, as well as a silent auction with exclusive items and experiences. The gala promises to be an unforgettable evening of celebration, inspiration, and giving back.

Proceeds from the gala will support GWAG’s ongoing efforts to improve maternity wards in Ghana, including providing essential medical equipment, supplies, and training for healthcare professionals. By investing in maternal and child healthcare, GWAG aims to create a safer and more nurturing environment for mothers and newborns, ensuring healthier futures for generations to come.

Tickets for the fundraising gala are now available for purchase, and sponsorship opportunities are still open for businesses and individuals looking to show their support. Please visit ghanawomen.org or contact the Public Relations Officer at info@ghanawomen.org.
