The 7th Ghana International Trade and Finance Conference (GITFIC) is scheduled to take place at the Royal Senchi Hotel and Resort in Akosombo, Ghana from 26th to 28th May, 2023.

The GITFIC is an annual conference that brings together business executives, policy makers and subject matter experts from all over the world to articulate ways of enhancing inter Africa trade, regional integration, trade liberalization, trade policies and practices of the African continent and notably to turn talks into actions.

The 7th edition will be held under the theme ‘Senchi Consensus on Africa’s single currency‘.

The three-day conference will address a sub theme each day;

DAY ONE: Finance under the theme; Sovereign Economic Vulnerabilities; An Endorsement for a Single Currency for Africa – with ECOWAS as a case study.

DAY TWO: Trade and Healthy Investment under the theme; Actualising Africa’s Industralisation Agenda in the era of the AfCFTA; The Role of Africa’s Small and Medium Scale Enterprises – with Ghana as a case study.

DAY THREE: A Review of the Implementation of the AfCFTA; Towards an African Centered AfCFTA Disputes Settlement Protocol.

According to the conference organisers, GITFIC 2023 will prioritize an immediate pilot implementation of an African single trading currency using the existing regional financial structure. The conference will be taking a cue from the Abuja treaty that was signed in Abuja, Nigeria on 3rd June 1991 but came into effect in May 1994.

The treaty established the African Economic Community (AEC) as an integral part of then Organization of African Unity (OAU, now African Union – AU) to promote the social, economic, and cultural growth of Africa, with plan of integrating African economies under a single currency.

Therefore, the GITFIC conference in line, will consider an ultimate aim of discussing the possibility of creating a completely integrated and united Africa, both economically and politically.
