Ghana Alumni in US plan historic event dubbed ‘National Schools Reunion’

Ghana Alumni Executives form a committee to organize the first National Schools Reunion™ in the United States and hire PR and Advertising Firm, Orange3 Media to plan the maiden edition of the reunion in Landover, Maryland in August 2019.

Background of Ghana Alumni event

Over the years, class and school reunions have grown in popularity. Thousands of graduates from high schools, colleges, and professional institutions look forward earnestly to these annual reunions. For most people, it’s the fun of reconnecting with old mates and reliving wonderful moments from school; for others, these gatherings offer an opportunity to network and rekindle old relationships.

Despite the growth in demand for such gatherings, some of these events have become meetings instead of reunions – with rigid formats and long speeches. They are either limited to conversations over meals, a trip out of town or having a few drinks in the park. Sadly, these ‘reunions‘ are almost always with the same mates who have the same jokes and want to do the same thing every year.

The Debate

In May 2018, several of the alumni association executives in the USA started discussing the revolutionary idea of a National Reunion. They talked about the possibility of organizing one big reunion that will bring together alumni associations from all over the USA to one event that will allow them to network and compete in intellectual and sporting activities all whilst having fun.

The National Schools Reunion Project was birthed on the idea that people can compete, network, and still have fun at a reunion that is reminiscent of what happens during inter-college, zonal or regional competitions. Participating schools will compete in 5-aside soccer games, 100m dash, Basketball, Pool, Tug-of-Peace, Sack Racing, Egg and Spoon race, Scrabble, Checkers, Cards, Ampe, Arm Wrestling and several other activities including break dancing!

Because this will be a family oriented event, there will be an area called the Kids Zone which will have games and activities for children aged 7 to 17. The playground will have several options for kids. The idea is to give parents a chance to let the kids play under professional supervision as the adults network with friends and family.

National Schools Reunion 2019

The first National Schools Reunion will be held in Landover, Maryland. The choice of location for this year’s event is based on several factors including the fact that the DMV (DC, MD, VA) is well positioned to allow participants from the other East Coast States like New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New York, Connecticut, and Massachusetts to attend the event.
