Former Burundian National Olympic committee president elected as President of the Republic

General Major Evariste Ndayishimiye has been elected President of the Republic of Burundi during the election held on May 20, 2020.

Diacounda Sene AIPS Young Reporter – Senegal  DAKAR, May 30, 2020 – General Major Evariste Ndayishimiye has been elected President of the Republic of Burundi during the election held on May 20, 2020.

Ndayishimiye was the country’s National Olympic Committee President from 2009 to 2017.  Hence his is election is viewed as an honor for the Burundian NOC.

Before being elected President, he was the Vice President of the country. General Major Evariste Ndayishimiye was the one who spearheaded building project of the NOC’s headquarters.

Since 2017, he has been the honorary president of the National Olympic Committee of Burundi. The Executive Committee of the NOC entrusted him with leading all the events of the Olympic day.

According to the current president of the Burundian National Olympic Committee Madame Lydia Nsekera, the new Republic President and honorary president of the Burundi NOC has contributed a lot to the participation of Burundi at the Olympic Games.

Within the Burundian Olympic movement, the satisfaction is total. All have saluted the victory of their honorary president.
