WAEC gives new release date for Ghana’s 2025 WASSCE results

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced a new date for the release of Ghana’s 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results, changing its initial date from November 15 to early or mid-December 2025.

In an interview with Accra-based television station, Joy News, Mr John Kapi, WAEC’s Head of Public Affairs confirmed that the regional examination body has finished marking WASSCE scripts, the stage preceding the release of results.

“We will probably look at a couple of weeks as I speak, my colleagues are in their meetings putting things together, so within this week and next week, I believe they should be able to conclude the issues and then have the results released,” he stated.

Explaining the WASSCE result release process, Mr. John K Kapi said that WAEC, after marking the examination scripts, put together the marks and the scores of candidates to award them the grades they deserve.

“We are going to have to put together the mark and the grade of the candidates appropriately to award the candidates the grades they duly deserve,” the spokesman said, speaking on JoyNews AM show.

When asked if the numerous reported cases of examination malpractice in this year’s WASSCE could lead to the majority of candidates’ results being withheld, he said WAEC is yet to conclude its investigations into the irregularities.

Mr Kapi’s comment was in response to a claim that WAEC withheld 34,000 WASSCE results of candidates who sat for the international examination in Ghana. He mentioned that no official figures regarding the withheld WASSCE results had been released, confirming a statement from WAEC that called the figure fake news.

“We have not released any official statement. I’ve seen the statement being circulated myself, but there are a lot of factual inaccuracies in it. We are still dealing with the issues and have not concluded investigations,” he said.

This year, a total of 461,640 candidates, representing 207,381 males and 254,259 females from 1,021 Senior High Schools, participated in the 2025 WASSCE.

The 2025 WASSCE for School candidature represents a 0.22% increase over the 2024 entry figure of 460,611. The Ghana version of the international examination took place at 703 centres across the country.

Commenced on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, with Visual Art Project work, the 2025 WASSCE for School, which continued with the written papers on Monday, August 18, 2025, ended on Friday, September 19, 2025.
