International NGO, Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light (HWPL) will be holding a peace walk at the United States Capitol as the central event of its 12th Annual Commemoration of the Declaration of World Peace on May 31st, 2025, under the theme, “Peace Is Possible: Securing Generational Peace Through Law and Dialogue.”
The event is designed to highlight the importance of turning peace efforts into real, lasting change. For over a decade, HWPL’s Peace Walks have been more than a symbolic gathering, they have been a call for peace across continents, uniting people of all backgrounds, and inspiring real action toward a world free from war.
First held on May 25, 2013, in Seoul, South Korea, the movement began with a vision to bring people together as one, beyond national, cultural, and religious differences, to call for lasting peace. What started as a single event has since grown into a global movement, with thousands marching in cities around the world each year, raising awareness and urging leaders to take concrete steps toward peace.
This year, HWPL in collaboration with the International Women’s Peace Group (IWPG) and International Peace Youth Group (IPYG) call on all women and youth around the Greater Washington area to join the movement, “proving that peace is not an impossible dream but a reality if we work in solidarity as women for the common purpose of world peace. With every footstep, we declare, peace, not war—that’s what we’re here for,” disclosed HWPL in a statement to TheAfricanDream.net.
Over the years, their supports for HWPL’s Peace Walks have made ample efforts to turning peace into reality. They have Inspired the Legislate Peace (LP) Project, urging leaders and policymakers to institutionalize peace through policies guided by the HWPL’s Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW) program.
According to HWPL, this has strengthened interfaith and intercultural dialogue among diverse communities. It has also amplified the voices of youth and civil society, “reminding the world that peace is not just the responsibility of governments but of every global citizen.”

Through the peace walk, HWPL’s and its partners’ will show their commitment to peace, and bring more attention and support for peace locally and internationally from various stakeholders. Speakers representing different stakeholders will give presentations addressing peace locally and internationally, and impact of insecurity no matter where it lies.
Its last year peace walk at the Lafayette Square, Washington DC, U.S., was in partnership with the African Union Mission, featuring distinguished guests from the U.S. and D.C. governments, Embassies, local diaspora groups, and civil society leaders.
HWPL holds a special consultative status with United Nations Economic and Social Council (UN-ECOSOC) and United Nations Department of Global Communications (UN-DGC). With over 170 branches around the world, HWPL aims to contribute to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, working in all sectors of society.
The organisation proclaimed its DPCW in 2016, later making it a formally recognized and ratified document in countries and regional organizations, and is gaining support at the UN. The DPCW was drafted by HWPL’s Chairman and international law experts representing 15 countries.
Its articles are divided into three sections: Preventing conflict, settling conflict, and maintaining a culture of peace. HWPL has implemented, or has plans to implement, its peace education curriculum in over 214 locations in 26 countries, as evidenced in signed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and Memorandum of Agreement (MOA).
“We warmly invite you to join us at 10:00 AM on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at the United States Capitol for this global movement dedicated to advancing and institutionalizing peace through collective action. World peace requires the world, and that means it requires women,” said HWPL in a joint statement with IWPG to TheAfricanDream.net.
