The Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Ghana, Washington, D.C., Ambassador Mrs. Jane Gasu Aheto, has appealed to Ghanaians in the diaspora to become willing strategic partners in the construction of the state-of-the-art Cancer Center to be situated in Kwaso, Ashanti Region of Ghana, on land donated by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
She said that cancer is a human issue, a challenge that affects families and communities and called on the diaspora to see themselves as “co-creators in the shared future for global health equity” by donating generously for its construction.
Ambassador Gasu Aheto made the appeal at the just ended Fundraising Gala held in Washington D.C on the 4th of September 2026 to raise funds for the envisioned Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Comprehensive Cancer Center of Excellence which seeks to bring the diagnosis, treatment and research of cancer, home to Ghanaians and people in the West African sub-region.
“By supporting this Center, we are not just building a hospital, we are building a legacy of hope, resilience and humanity.”
Dr. Beatrice Wiafe- Addae, President of Breast Care International and Founding Director of the Center, entreated the gathering to keep in mind that cancer is increasingly becoming one of the most serious health challenges facing Africa and the world.
Across the continent, and in Ghana, thousands of new cancer cases are recorded each year with the common diagnoses being breast cancer, cervical cancer, prostate cancer and liver cancer.
She stated that her dearest wish was to see the Center built, assuring that with early diagnosis and proper treatment on time, without the high costs incurred abroad, patients could live healthier, longer lives.
The Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, represented by the Nsutamanhene, Nana Asamoah Sekyere, reiterated the call for all to support the effort in realizing the dream of bringing the Center to Ghana.
Awards and citations were given to some individuals who, with their tireless efforts, had helped to bring the vision this far.
Among the dignitaries present were Nana Agyakomaa Difie II, Asante Mamponghemaa and other notable Nananom from Ghana, the Global Health Catalyst Team, Council of Ghanaian Pastors and Churches, medical doctors, cancer survivors, and Ghanaians in the diaspora.
