Albert Anum plans travel to 197 countries with Ghanaian passport

Albert Anum’s mission could make him the first Ghanaian to visit every country in the world with one of the world’s least powerful passports. The young Ghanaian content creator, who is currently based in Canada, has officially launched what some are calling the boldest travel challenge ever attempted by a Ghanaian citizen.

Anum hopes to become the first Ghanaian in history to complete this feat, documenting every country visited, every visa battle fought, and every cultural experience embraced along the way. His mission, which will set off on July 5, 2025 is according to him fuelled by absolute determination, a sense of national pride, and a curiosity about how the world is.

I want to prove to the world and to young Ghanaians that a passport should never define your potential. I’m doing this to inspire others and challenge the odds stacked against African travellers,” Anum said in an exclusive conversation with TheAfricanDream.net.

According to the Henley Passport Index, the Ghanaian passport ranks 72nd globally, offering visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to just about 40 countries. Compared to the ease of travel enjoyed by citizens of countries like Japan, Germany, or the USA, Ghanaian travellers often face longer processing times, stricter requirements, and heartbreaking rejections.

An expedition against systemic barriers

He posted a video on his Instagram account and captioned it “One man. One Ghanaian passport. 197 countries. 🌍✈️ Starting July 5th, 2025 — I’m proving that no dream is too big, and no passport is too weak”.

Anum is no stranger to storytelling. Through his growing YouTube channel, “Ghanaian Traveller,” and viral street interviews under “The Anum Studios,” he has already gained a reputation for capturing the authentic voices of people around the world.

“There are amazing stories waiting to be told from a Ghanaian point of view, how we apply for visas, how we’re treated at borders, and how we thrive in places the world doesn’t expect us to be. I want to tell those stories, country by country,” he said.

Now, his global travel series will focus on the challenges of travelling with a Ghanaian passport, cultural encounters with locals in each country, travel tips for fellow African globetrotters, visa application experiences (including rejections and victories), and inspirational stories of endurance on the road.

Calling for support

Anum is calling on corporate sponsors, government institutions, tourism boards, and proud Ghanaians in the diaspora to support the mission financially and logistically.

He is also launching a GoFundMe campaign and seeking partnerships with brands that believe in travel equity and global diversity.

This is more than my dream it’s Ghana’s journey to the world stage. I want to carry our flag everywhere, from the streets of Tokyo to the hills of Peru. With the right support, this can be a source of pride for the entire nation,” he states.
