George Floyd’s 4-year-old Niece Shot in Her Sleep

According to family members, George Floyd’s 4-year-old niece was shot while sleeping in her bed on New Year’s Day. In addition, the Houston Police Department has launched an internal investigation into the shooting’s “delayed response”

According to police, several shots were fired into an apartment just before 3 a.m. on Saturday, while four adults and two children were inside.

According to authorities, one of the youngsters, named Arianna Delane, by relatives, was struck in the torso.

Relatives reported her family drove her to the hospital, where she underwent surgery and is now stable. At this time, police have no suspect description or motivation for the shooting.

Derrick Delane, Arianna’s father, recalled the terrifying encounter to NBC affiliate KPRC in Houston.

“My daughter jumped up and said she had been hit,” he said. “I (saw) the blood, the bleeding, and I grabbed her.”

Derrick Delane stated that his wife was the one who drove them to the hospital.

“She’s healing very fast. The last time I checked on her, she was breathing on her own. She was doing really great,” he said.

Houston Police Chief Troy Finner announced that an internal review of the department’s response to the incident had been launched.

“I am aware and have concerns regarding the delayed response time in this incident and have initiated an Internal Affairs investigation,” Finner said Tuesday in a separate statement.

Floyd died on May 25, 2020, after then-Minneapolis Police Officer Derek Chauvin knelt on his neck for 9 1/2 minutes while detaining him.

Arianna had attended demonstrations in his honour.

Floyd’s death provoked worldwide protests and rallies against racial injustice and police violence in the aftermath of his death. Chauvin was found guilty of Floyd’s murder in April.

Anyone with information on the crime should call the department’s serious assaults and family violence division at 713-308-8800 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS, according to the police.
