Black Star Int’l Film Fest, Cinekita partner to boost African cinema

The Black Star International Film Festival (BSIFF), Africa’s premier pan-African film festival, has announced a landmark partnership with Cinekita, a premier post-production and audiovisual localization company, to advance its “Breaking Barriers” agenda.

Unveiled on August 30, 2025, the collaboration aims to propel African films across linguistic, cultural, and market boundaries, enhancing their global reach and accessibility.

BSIFF announced its dedication to celebrating independent filmmaking from Africa and its diaspora. The festival, founded in 2015, and based in Accra, Ghana, promotes films through screenings, workshops, and networking events, nurturing a community of filmmakers and industry professionals.

Juliet Yaa Asantewa Asante, founder and president of BSIFF, emphasized the transformative potential of the partnership. “Language should never be a barrier to African stories travelling the world” she said.

“This partnership with Cinekita ensures that African films can reach diverse audiences across the continent and globally, unlocking new opportunities for our filmmakers,” she added.

Cinekita, renowned for its expertise in post-production, brings a suite of world-class services to the partnership, including dubbing and voice-over, subtitling and multilingual adaptation, audio mastering (Stereo, 5.1, and Dolby Atmos mixing), video restoration, quality control (QC), compliance checks, and multi-format delivery for broadcast, cinema, and digital platforms.

The technical expertise will ensure that African films can meet international standards while preserving their cultural authenticity. Cinekita’s founder, Madéka Kouadio-Timmerman, echoed this statement, confirming her organisation’s commitment to the partnership.

“We are excited to collaborate with BSIFF to ensure African films are accessible in multiple languages, while maintaining the highest technical standards in dubbing, subtitling, and mastering,” she announced.

Cinekita as a leading post-production and audiovisual localization company specializing in dubbing, subtitling, audio mastering, and video restoration. With a focus on delivering high-quality content for broadcast, cinema, and digital platforms, Cinekita supports filmmakers in reaching global audiences with technically superior and culturally resonant productions.

The agreement builds on BSIFF’s existing partnership with Majestic Cinemas, Ivory Coast’s largest cinema chain, which has already expanded screening opportunities for African films in West Africa.
