Abi-Eve readies Maryland for 3rd annual African Royal Ball event

The Ghanaian community in Hagerstown, Maryland, United States, is set to host its annual African Royal Ball event, which is made up of an Excellence Awards, and an End-of-Year Celebration. The cherished event will honor individuals and businesses whose service, leadership, and generosity continue to uplift and unite the community, on December 27, 2025.

The gathering that has become a moment of reflection, gratitude, and cultural pride is organized by Abi-Eve Planners LLC, an event planning company based in Hagerstown. According to the company, the African Royal Ball event has “grown to become synonymous with celebrating the true Ghanaian spirit.”

For years, the Hagerstown Ghanaian community has gathered every December to look back on the year’s accomplishments and pay tribute to those who have made a lasting difference.

“Honorees are selected not only for their achievements but also for the values they embody which include kindness, integrity, community support, and the ability to inspire others,” disclosed Abi-Eve Planners to TheAfricanDream.co, the event’s media partner.

In addition to honoring individuals, the Excellence Awards now extend recognition to local businesses that continue to support growth and development within the community. By spotlighting these organizations, the event encourages entrepreneurship while reinforcing the importance of building a stronger, more connected community.

One of the driving forces behind this celebration is Abigail Owusu Ansah, a nurse with the Maryland Health Department, a devoted wife and mother of three, and a remarkable community leader, and a citizen police officer in Hagerstown.

Abigail is the founder of the Ghanaian Community USA in Hagerstown, established in 2019; as well as Women of Dignity, a women’s empowerment initiative founded in 2016. She also runs her own business, Abi-Eve Planners LLC, where she uses her skills in organization and creativity to serve the wider community.

Last year’s Excellence Awards & End-of-Year Celebration held on December 28, 2024, highlighted two remarkable honorees. Mr. Samuel Mensah, a devoted businessman and steadfast supporter, was celebrated for his unwavering commitment to the community’s growth and success.

Madame Florence was honored alongside him for her tireless acts of care, from cooking and offering constant encouragement to babysitting for families in need. Together, their service reflected the true meaning of unity and the values the community holds dear.

Building on this tradition, the 2025 Excellence Awards & End-of-Year Celebration will broaden its scope to honor leaders, role models, and visionaries whose impact spans diverse areas of community life. This year’s honorees will represent the many ways Ghanaians in Hagerstown continue to uplift one another.

The gathering is also a festive close to the year, filled with music, food, dancing, and laughter. It is a time for families, friends, and neighbors to come together and celebrate the strength of their shared identity.

Beyond closing out the year, the celebration reflects the Ghanaian community’s deep-rooted spirit of togetherness, pride, and cultural identity in Hagerstown.

By recognizing its heroes and celebrating achievements both big and small, the community hopes to keep alive the spirit of service and connection. The Excellence Awards & End-of-Year Celebration is about charting a future where every generation is inspired to contribute, dream bigger, and carry forward the values that make the community strong.
