KIDZAFEST brings African culture to life at the Kennedy Center

Exceptional theatrical production, KIDZAFEST (Kids Arts Festival) featuring unforgettable African theatre, music, and dance was hosted at The Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., on August 30, 2025. The show was produced and directed by Sankofa Foundation Incorporated.
The event empowers young voices and talents to take the lead, express themselves, and represent their stories. It was headlined by the powerful voices of South Africa’s Mzansi Youth Choir, and the electrifying dance of Uganda’s Ghetto Kids.
Multi-award-winning Ghanaian actor and educator, Adjetey Anang hosted the event. The vocal and choir arrangements were made by Sidumo Nyamezele; and choreography by Alfred Alfred Phakathi, and Kavuma Dauda.
The production was a celebration of African culture and creativity, blending theatre, music, and movement in an unforgettable performance. The audience was excited by the talented young performers, who brought the stage to life with their energy and passion.
In an interview with TheAfricanDream.co, Sankofa Foundation Incorporated declared that they created KIDZAFEST to promote cultural exchange and understanding through the arts.
“The festival which premiered tonight was designed to feature a variety of performances, including music, dance, and theatre, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Africa and we are so privileged to have had Mzansi Youth Choir for this historic premiere edition…” said Sankofa Foundation Incorporated.

Sankofa Foundation Incorporated indicated that there are plans in the pipeline for similar future events at the Kennedy Center, and other iconic locations across the United States and eventually in Africa for the upcoming season, including world premieres, top stars, and rising artists.
Sankofa Foundation Incorporated which is a 501(c)(3) public charity was dedicated to promoting cultural exchange and understanding through the arts. The foundation encourages individuals and organisations to lend a hand in support of its mission to bring people together through music, dance, and theatre.
“We seek to advance greater appreciation and understanding of diverse cultures in a world that seems to be too distracting for children given the rapid evolution of AI and the internet,” said the public charity.
