Embassy of Ghana in Washington District of Columbia D.C. and Ghana Permanent Mission in New York on behalf of the Republic of Ghana in collaboration with the City of Mount Vernon in New York, and the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGHA) will host the International Media Launch of the Ghana Music Week 2016 event in the USA in October 2015.

The press event is scheduled to happen on October 16, 2015, at the Ghana Embassy premises located at 3512 International Drive North West of Washington DC at 19:00 Eastern Standard Time. The following day of October 17, 2015, will see the official launch of Ghana Music Week 2016 at the forecourts of the Mount Vernon City Hall in Roosevelt Square, New York.

Bice Osei-Kufuor, popularly known as Obuor and the current President of MUSIGHA who was instrumental in making this a reality is elated about how the global community has been accepting of music originating from Ghana, “something which could be used as a platform on which to raise the potential of Ghana as a preferred tourism destination” through music.

This international launch which is the first of its kind became possible because of the sister city relationship shared between Ghana’s city of Elmina located in the Central Region of Ghana and the city of Mount Vernon in Winchester County in New York, USA.

Sources at the Embassy of Ghana in Washington DC indicates that the 2016 Ghana Music Week, which will be the first of its kind in the USA, kicks off a week prior to the annual independence festivities of March 6. “This will also become an integral part of the celebration of Ghana in the USA, which is why plans are in motion to make the event leave a colorful picture of Ghanaian culture and music in the minds of the Diaspora community” the source said.

Ghana Music Week is in its third event this year, the 2015 week long edition begins March 2 and runs till 8 of that month. The music festival, according to its organizers aims to serve as a platform for creating awareness for, and the promotion of Ghanaian music.

Media houses in the United States interested in covering both events are advised to contact the information section of the Ghana Embassy in Washington DC to be accredited.
